The Lutheran Home at Kane Secures the Future of Long Term Care

The Kane Republican - Kane, Pennsylvania - The Lutheran Home at Kane recently announced their plans are well underway for a $5.3 million building expansion and renovation project.

The expansion and renovation project to the 40 year-old facility will see the construction of a 10,700 square foot addition which will include new, secure, all private resident rooms in the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Unit, a new kitchen, café, a chapel, 8 private rooms for short-term rehabilitation, telemedicine suite, a secure enclosed outdoor courtyard, and additional office and storage space.

Charlotte Floravit, The Lutheran Home at Kane’s Chief Executive Officer, said The Lutheran Home would not have been able to acquire a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project (RACP) Grant without the help of local legislators and the McKean County Commissioners, who helped the facility to obtain the grant monies.

“We have received a monumental gift from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a $2.44 million RACP grant.  This would not have been possible without the support of the McKean County Commissioners, State Senator Cris Dush, and State Representative Martin Causer,” Floravit said.

State Representative Causer said the RACP grant monies were key to helping The Lutheran Home at Kane begin the expansion and renovation project.

“It’s an exciting project that they have going on at The Lutheran Home at Kane.  The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Grant that we helped secure for them really enables them to move forward with the project, so that was a critical component,” Causer said.  “I’m excited about the project and proud to support it.”

State Senator Dush agreed that with the aging population of the area, the expansion and renovation project is critical to the area.

“They (The Lutheran Home at Kane) have such a great reputation with the way they take care of the residents that it’s easy to get behind them,” Dush said.  “The type of expansion, especially given the aging population we have here, is definitely needed.  With the increase in Dementia, they’re going to be able to help deal with that increasing population as well.  I’m glad we’re able to get money here to help out.  This takes care of some of our most pressing needs.”

McKean County Commissioner Tom Kreiner attributed obtaining the RACP grant monies to McKean County Economic Development Liaison, Ann Robinson.

“I have to give credit where it’s due.  Economic Development deserves the credit,” Kreiner said.  “We saw their (Lutheran Home at Kane) plan and what their intentions are, and it’s worthwhile. It’s a big benefit for our area.”

The Lutheran Home is currently in the quiet phase of their capital campaign.  The campaign goal is $2 million and they have already secured more than $600,000.

According to Floravit, The Lutheran Home at Kane prides themselves in being a 5-Star facility and ensure they staff above the state minimum.  As a community asset, they are seeing support from many local foundations, employees, and the Lutheran Home’s Board of Directors.  The campaign has naming opportunities which has been proven to be very popular in helping to obtain the necessary funding for the project.
